how painful it is to see that the dollar generating industry is dying and nobody has even time to see what is going on?
when i was kid i had visited a lot Aligarh as my grandfather had put a foundry over there,Aligarh is famous for locks, hardware products as well as statues and sculptures.
workers are skilled but uneducated using same sand casting process for casting last more than forty years.they are able to make as same as the master piece.they had fulfilled the desires of middle class men those have desire to keep a masterpiece in their drawing room but unable to spent a big amount to buy big artist's work.
more than 500 foundries were giving another way to earn for farmers other than fielding, giving employment to more than 1,00,000 people of Aligarh and villages near by the Aligarh as it is labor based technology.
this industry not even giving the employment as well as giving foreign currency for Indian Govt.because of this industry the people associated with shipping, ware housing, custom clearance were also earning their daily needs.
after 9/11 in USA, creation of Euro , creation of European union the export from Europe to USA had finished and because of that the handicraft industry start suffering from last ten years. specially statue makers from Aligarh as they are facing double problem one is lack of business from abroad as well as fluctuation of prices of raw material due to commodity market.with having demand in the market for brass and bronze prices are hiking day by day and it jumps more than 300% with in five yrs.
i hope our Prime Minister will think about the poor workers and owners of small foundries (for whom these foundries are just like their farms as farmers)by write off their loans with the banks and financial institutes just like they do for farmers and give a bail out for this industry in the time of recession in the international market and allow them to live for few more years with their families.
I want you people help me to help these poor people of sculpture making industry other wise one day our children will unable to see a statue of any god in bronze or brass.
